The Islamic, formal form of prayer
Salāt is the Islamic, formal form of prayer. Salāt is the second Pillar in Islam, and has been prescribed by Allah the Almighty to be offered five times a day, at specific timings, as a way to establish greater levels of communion and connection with our Creator.
There are many wisdoms in the philosophy behind the timings of Salāt—and the positions and words rehearsed throughout the prescribed prayers. To name just a few great benefits:
Being called back to the place of prayer throughout one's day, away from the chaos and noise of the world, re-establishes inner-peace and stability within the heart and soul.
Bowing down increases one in humility, and relying wholly on the Almighty, through prayer, brings solace and comfort to the heart, pulling the one who prays out of all forms of worry and distress.
These are only a few of the countless benefits that come with the offering of Salāt, not to mention the Divine Laws of Prayer, wherein the prayer is accepted, and the miracles surrounding the granted prayers that leave our hearts in tears and increase us in the love of Allah.
